The RAM-VB-178A-SW1 RAM 2500 No-Drill Laptop Mount installs quickly using the existing passenger-side seat hardware with no drilling required. Designed for RAM 2500 (2012–2026), RAM 1500 (2012–2018), RAM 1500 Classic (2019–2024), RAM 3500 (2012–2026) and RAM 4500/5500 (2012–2026), this mounting system also serves as a RAM 1500 Laptop Mount and RAM 1500 Classic Laptop Mount for professionals who need a reliable in-vehicle workspace.
This RAM 2500 No-Drill Laptop Mount features telescoping upper and lower poles with adjustable height, dual swing arms providing up to 12″ of reach, and patented RAM® ball and socket technology for superior adjustability and vibration damping. The included legacy RAM® Tough-Tray™ securely supports 10″–17″ laptops and is ideal as a Fleet Truck Laptop Mount for law enforcement, police, utility, service, and other commercial vehicles. Integrated mounting holes make it easy to attach GPS units, scanners and other accessories, helping create a complete mobile office solution.

- Can someone sit in the passenger seat while this mount is installed?
Technically, someone can still sit in the passenger seat while the RAM-VB-178A-SW1 is installed. However, the mount does take up a considerable amount of legroom, making the passenger seat less comfortable. If you need to quickly remove the mount to create additional passenger space, we recommend installing the RAM-VB-REM1 Remove-A-Pole™ Base, which allows the mounting system to be removed without uninstalling the base.
- Will this base work with the RAM 1500 Classic?
Yes. The RAM-VB-178A-SW1 is designed for the RAM 1500 Classic as well as RAM 2500, 3500, 4500, and 5500 trucks.
If you have the redesigned fifth-generation RAM 1500 (2019+ New Body Style), the correct no-drill laptop mount is the RAM-VB-186ST1-SW1.
- Can this mount be installed in the rear center seating position for a passenger to use?
In some applications, yes. If the rear passenger seat bolts measure approximately 13.25 inches (center to center), the mount may be compatible. However, for most rear-seat laptop installations, we recommend the RAM-VBD-122-SW1 Universal Drill-Down Laptop Mount, which offers greater installation flexibility.
- Will this fit a 2024 RAM 1500 Classic?
At this time, we have not officially confirmed compatibility with the 2024 RAM 1500 Classic. We recommend verifying that your vehicle has a 13.25-inch center-to-center seat bolt spacing and the same mounting hole pattern as previous model years before ordering.
- I purchased this for a 2023 RAM 1500 Classic, but we're now receiving 2024 RAM 1500 Tradesman trucks. Will this still work?
If your fleet is receiving the 2024 redesigned RAM 1500 (DT platform), we recommend the RAM-VB-186ST1-SW1 (or the RAM-VB-186ST1 base only), which is specifically designed for the newer-generation RAM 1500.
If the vehicle is a 2024 RAM 1500 Classic (DS platform), compatibility should be verified by confirming the seat bolt spacing and mounting pattern.
- What's the difference between the RAM Mount SW1 and SW3 laptop systems?
The primary difference between the SW1 and SW3 laptop systems is the included laptop tray.
The SW1 system includes the original RAM® Tough-Tray™ (RAM-234-3), while the SW3 system includes the newer RAM® Tough-Tray™ III (RAM-234-7).
